I Did It On Impulse

Words and music by Briyan Frederick

No, I can’t explain
I cannot try
To run away
But sometimes I
Get the urge
To maybe
Put it in
And shout it out
But usually I don’t
Ok
I went too far
I jumped the groove
I wrecked the car
But sometimes don’t you
Get the urge
To maybe
Turn it on
And jerk it loose
But usually you don’t
Ooh
I did it on
I did it on
I did it on impulse
Ooh
I did it on
I did it on
I did it on impulse
Impulse…
My mind grows dark
It’s like I’m gone
It’s planning marks
I come undone
Against the urge
To maybe
Knock it off
And kick it down
Would I, could I, should
Ooh
I did it on
I did it on
I did it on impulse
Ooh
I did it on
I did it on
I did it on impulse
Impulse…
No, I can’t explain
I cannot try
To run away
But sometimes I
Get the urge
To maybe
Put it in
And shout it out
But usually I don’t
Ooh
I did it on
I did it on
I did it on impulse
Ooh
I did it on
I did it on
I did it on impulse
Impulse…
This song was original written and recorded on 4-track cassette around 1984. Here’s the original.
This was likely recorded on a Tascam Porta One 4-track. The drums are from a Roland TR-707. I was probably playing one of brother Wayne’s guitars through by obligatory Ibanez digital delay and Fostex compressor. The bass is likely the Casio CZ-1000. This is one of those recordings where I recorded everything and wrote a lyric for Gregg Allen to sing.
All of the AI-reimagined versions here are created with this original song as the basis upload. In the featured song at the top you can hear the original 4-track guitars in the break and bridge. I thought it was very cool how that was incorporated in that one. Sunoai often surprises me with her moves.
