I was inspired, at least tangentially, while archiving a cassette album by Dan Fioretti and Johnathan Caws-Elwitt (Surfing Spaceship Muzick), on top of skewing in this direction musically lately with a few of my recent songs. This one bends over even more in that direction. I think one of the ways that sunoai may shift music is in the complexity of music and vocal arrangements. It gives people with none to little theoretical background a tool to shape music and I think it will shape into very interesting things. At least, I find myself shaping odd things with it.
I came at music as a lyricist first and spent a lot of time working with others and collaborating and songs and, along the way, learned some theory. At this point I can play keyboards, guitars and things and can produce a recording that I like. But if I was just starting I would likely have not taken the same path.
I’m sure the new AI-led path that young songwriters are now taking has downsides for them because many won’t feel the need to learn theory. But are there upsides? Does AI clear a path toward another way to be creative?
I think it does.

Oh
It’s not what’s on the outside
It’s what’s inside the website (in hindsight)
Oh, no
Oh
Nothing to see here
Move on you shouldn’t be here (that much is clear, my dear)
Oh, no
[chorus]
Oh (no)
Oh no
Because I said so (because I said so)
Oh (no)
Oh no
Because I said so
Oh
Show me yours and I’llllllll
Shhhhhhhh show you mine too (yoohoo)
Oh, no
[chorus]
Oh (no)
Oh no
Because I said so (because I said so)
Oh (no)
Oh no
Because I said so
[bridge]
When all the kids are quiet
That’s when you worry (don’t try it)
There’s a storm before the riot
What-a what-a pity (what a pity)
All the itty bitty polka dots are
Swirling (and swirling)
And swirling (and swirling)
Oh
It’s never as hard as you expect
When your expectations aren’t met (just yet)
Oh, no
Oh
Fair weather friends (and friends of friends of friendses)
Are often met with suspicious endses (again)
Oh, no
[chorus]
Oh (no)
Oh no
Because I said so (because I said so)
Oh (no)
Oh no
Because I said so
[chorus]
Oh (no)
Oh no
Because I said so (because I said so)
Oh (no)
Oh no
Because I said so
Because I said so… (oh no)
Because I said so… (oh no)
Because I said so… (oh no)
Oh, no
Because I said so
